Brief: Water-Line Repairs Underway in Christiansted

Sept. 22, 2008 — Some people in Christiansted may experience reduced water pressure Monday as maintenance crews work to repair a 10-inch main water line in the vicinity of Company and King Cross streets.
Repairs should be complete by 8 p.m. Monday, weather permitting, according to a news release from the V.I. Water and Power Authority. Aside from the reduced pressure, service should continue uninterrupted.
Several breaks in the main line need repair, water technicians said.
"The breaks are attributed to the heavy rains that have occurred during the past week," the release said. "Saturated soil in the area has caused a shift in the position of the water pipeline, resulting in stress breaks to the line."
Traffic on Company Street in the work area has been diverted to Queen Street until the repairs are completed. Drivers are asked to proceed with caution.
