Recycle………….No it won't solve all of St Croix's waste disposal problems, but the less material that goes into a landfill or has to be shipped off island the better. So much can be recycled that is not. Yes, aluminum can now be recycled but how about all the glass bottles and jars, hundreds of thousands a year alone…Newspaper and cardboard. There is no reason to place these in a dump. They can all be processed and made into useful items.
The government could and should place some containers (the large ones) at points on each end and central island with easy access (like the motor vehicle site) or other government facilities where residents and business can drop off their recycle items. We need some corporate sponsors to help place some ads in the local papers to let people know where they can go and what they can recycle. If you give people an incentive and make it easy they will participate.
We cannot just think of today but how not recycling will effect us and the island years from now. We are looking into companies to provide alternative energy, lets start looking for a company or organization that will help us recycle and manage our waste.
