What a shame. Our "leaders," once again, are trying to impose their narrow-minded faith on all the people of the Virgin Islands. Separation of Church and State exists for this very reason…to stop someone from imposing their own faith onto someone else. The conversation that apparently took place at the constitutional convention meeting is a flagrant violation of our constitutional right to have separation of Church and State. How sad that I, no expert, have to explain this to them.
From the article it appears that Chairwoman Lois Hassell-Habtes is responsible for the added language banning same-sex marriage and Delegate Wilma Marsh Monsanto agrees with it because to not agree with it is "messing with almighty God." Who's God, I ask? Certainly not mine! I hope that these women can open their eyes and see the diversity that is the Virgin Islands and stop trying to fashion us into their narrow vision. Need I remind them that limiting human rights is the single most negative historical fact in USVI history???
