Wow! It was really nice to read about Artis Gilmore and his recent visit to St. Croix. Our family held season tickets to the Kentucky Colonels of the ABA during the time that Gilmore was a member of the team. He was a great player and a fine gentleman. In 1975, the year that the Colonels won the ABA championship, I have no doubt that if it had been possible, they would have won the NBA championship as well. Gilmore teamed with Dan Issel to give the Colonels a very imposing frontline.
It was a sad day when the ABA disbanded and the Colonels were no more. I'm glad to hear that Artis is doing well and that he continues to be involved in community activities. He is a great ambassador for the sport of basketball, and we all wish him well here in Kentucky.
