Dear Source:
One of the responsibilities of a civil society is to protect those who are unable to protect themselves. The fact that it seems those prosecutors are unwilling to bring this animal cruelty charge to trial is just another example of why so many civilized people have so little respect for the VI judicial system. When I read the "Judgment Day" in the AVIS and see even the most violent criminals set free with nothing more than a gentle "Don't do it again," I am appalled, grieved, and saddened. If there is no rule of law, society disintegrates into anarchy as did the young schoolboys in "Lord of the Flies." Is that really what we want here?
