St. Croix Schools Observe Family Involvement Month

Oct. 11, 2008 – Janet Brow, the director of School Community Relations for the St. Croix school district, encourages parents and guardians to utilize the month of October, which is Family Involvement Month in the U.S. Virgin Islands, to bring their families closer together and begin by involving children in wholesome conversations and traditions.
“Parents should listen to the accomplishments and challenges that their children experience each day,”
Brow said. “Spending time together as a family provides children with feelings of love, support, security and safety, the foundation they need to be successful in school and in their social lives.”
She is encouraging all families on St. Croix to have breakfast, lunch or dinner together on Sunday, Oct. 19.
“Enjoying meals together provides the opportunity for parents to get more involved in their children’s lives,” she said. “Turn off the T.V., turn off the cell phones and any other distractions that will take away from your family enjoyment, and use the moment for a time of connection, communication and love.”
Finally, Brow reminds parents and guardians that the best way to love their children is by spending quality time with them.
