Oct. 22, 2008 – St. Croix Landmarks Society will present the 23rd season of Music at Whim – Candlelight Concert Series. This concert series is both an avenue to raise funds as well as to carry out the organization's mission to provide cultural performing arts/music education to the people of St. Croix and its visitors. It will provide six different weekends of visiting musicians, each performing on Friday and Saturday nights. In addition, the artists will also participate in the Victor Borge Listen and Learn Program Friday afternoons, at Island Center for the Performing Arts.
The first performance of the new season featured soprano Greta Feeney and pianist Robert Behrman at the Whim Plantation Greathouse. These artists will perform on the following dates:
December 12, 13—-William Harvey, violin; Cory Smythe, piano
January 9, 10—-Jennifer Nitchman, flute; Martin Kennedy, piano
February 13, 14—-Joe Chappel, baritone; Paul Vasile, piano
March 13, 14—-Tod Bowermaster, horn; Vera Parkin, piano
April 10, 11—-Marc Thayer, violin; Maryse Carlin, harpsichord
Ticket prices for Friday night performances are $35; Saturday night performances are $45 and include a post-concert artist reception. Concert-goers can reserve a "Boxed Dinner on the Lawn" from Turtles Deli for $20, which includes a beverage, until noon on Friday before the concert. Reservations should be made early because seating is limited.
Through a generous grant from the Sanna and Victor Borge Memorial Fund, the Landmarks Society is pleased to also continue the Victor Borge Listen & Learn concert performance workshops at Island Center for the Performing Arts, the goal of which is to broaden the musical appreciation of Crucian students by deepening understanding and stimulating imagination. Students are introduced to world-class performers and a rich musical heritage during an interactive education hour-long workshop.
