Nov. 2, 2008 — Police are investigating an armed robbery in downtown St. Thomas in which two individuals posing as campaign workers stole more than $200 in cash from a 62-year-old man, then fired shots at him.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of Hodges Street, according to a V.I. Police Department news release. The suspects demanded entry into the victim's home, threatened his life and hit him twice on the head with a gun, causing lacerations. They also fired shots at the victim as they were leaving his home, the release said.
No one was injured in the incident. The victim was taken to the hospital but refused treatment, according to the release.
Police are urging residents to be wary of unknown individuals and to "be aware" of their surroundings at all times.
"Residents should not open their doors to anyone they do not know and call the police department if they observe anything they think is suspicious," said Police Commissioner James H. McCall.
