Driver Charged with Negligent Homicide in Baby's Death

Nov. 10, 2008 — Police have charged a 25-year-old man with negligent homicide in an accident two months ago that claimed the life of an 11-day-old boy.
Souive M. Clarke of Estate Williams Delight was arrested just after noon Monday based on a warrant issued by Judge Darryl Donahue, according to the V.I. Police Department. He was also charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, marijuana and cocaine and reckless driving in connection with the Sept. 11 accident.
Clarke was driving a Nissan Sentra when he lost control of the vehicle and ran into a concrete embankment in the vicinity of Estate Diamond on Centerline Road, according to police. A 21-year-old woman and her baby were passengers in the car. The baby suffered severe head trauma in the wreck and was pronounced dead that night at Juan F. Luis Hospital. No one else in the car was seriously injured.
Clarke is being held on $100,000 bail pending his advice-of-rights hearing.
