Lt. Governor Francis Names Acting Tax Assessor

Dec. 30, 2008 – Lieutenant Governor Gregory R. Francis has tapped Assistant Tax Assessor Bernadette Williams to serve as acting tax assessor upon the retirement of Roy Martin. Williams will assume the responsibilities of the tax assessor on Jan. 1, 2009. Martin will retire on Dec. 31, 2008, after nearly 40 years of service in the Tax Assessor’s Office, according to a press release from the lieutenant governor's office.
Williams is a graduate of Hillsdale College in Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting and Business Administration. She has received intensive training from the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) in various areas, to include fundamentals of mass appraisal, assessment administration, fundamentals of real property appraisal and income approach to valuation. The IAAO is the professional association of government assessment officials and others interested in the administration of property tax.
Williams has worked closely with Martin since joining the Tax Assessor’s Office in 1995, and prior to that she was employed as an assistant technical advisor at the Internal Revenue Bureau.
