Dec. 30, 2008 – Commissioner Darryl A. Smalls advises the public that there will be a number of road-repair projects slated to commence during the first quarter of 2009, according to a press release from The Department of Public Works Commissioner Darryl A. Smalls. The projects planned for St. Thomas and St. Croix are as follows:
St. Thomas
· Savan – This project entails the repair to the collapsed roadway that resulted from Hurricane Omar.
· Brookman Road/Polyberg – This project entails the repair and resurfacing of these deteriorated roadways.
· Raphune Hill – This project entails the widening of the intersection adjacent to Wheatley Shopping Center.
· UVI Sidewalk – This project entails the installation of sidewalks from Zone B in Lindberg Bay to John Brewers Beach.
· Scott Free Road Phase I – This project entails the widening and repair of a section of this vital artery.
· Coki Point – This project entails the repair and resurfacing of the most critical section of roadway.
St. Croix
· Scenic Road Phase I – This road repair will begin from the North Shore road entrance traveling approximately 6000 feet westward.
· Williams Delight – Bids will be received for permanent repairs to the deteriorated roads and a Notice to Proceed will be issued shortly thereafter during January 2009.
· ADA Phase I Improvements – This project entails the restoration and repair of sidewalks in the towns of Christiansted and Frederiksted.
· Little LaGrange/Mount Pleasant/Route 80 North Shore to La Vallee/Route 58 Creque Dam to Annaly/Two Williams (2) Roads/Route 76 Jolly Hill Grove Place/Estate Mountain Road – This project entails the interim repair and resurfacing of these deteriorated roadways.
· Chrisiansted By-pass – It is anticipated that Phase I will be completed by March 2009, and shortly thereafter, the bids will be received for Phase II. Phase II will entail the surfacing of roadways, the installation of a scenic overlook, and the installation of landscaping and lighting.
The motoring public will be advised of the specific start dates once each Notice to Proceed has been issued. DPW thanks the community for its continued patience and understanding as they continue to build a new infrastructure for the territory.
