Rain Likely to Continue Through Tuesday

The rainy weather that began Saturday afternoon should continue through Tuesday night, according to Walter Snell, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in San Juan.
"We got a wave," he said Saturday.
Snell expects the skies to clear by Wednesday.
Saturday the Virgin Islands was getting the leading edge of a tropical wave that had reached Guadeloupe. The wave passing overhead late Saturday night into early Sunday will be followed by another one right behind it.
"The moisture will merge," he said.
Snell said the first wave isn’t expected to develop into anything stronger, but the second wave has a bit of spin to it but also isn’t expected to develop.
Snell expects rain up to two inches in some locations, but said that rain showers will be scattered.
"Some places will get big cells moving across," he said.
Residents should also expect thunder to accompany the waves, he said.
Gusty winds are also predicted. Snell said at 4:17 p.m. Saturday, St. Croix saw winds hit 37 p.m. St. Thomas topped out at 30 mph. Weather station Zephyr at Ajax Peak, St. John, recorded a high of 28 mph at 5:15 p.m.
