Pistarckle Opens Gospel Musical “Crowns”

Pistarckle Theater presents a gospel musical about six African-American women their lives, their heritage and the hats they wear. Written by Regina Taylor and adapted from the book by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry, “Crowns,” is a moving and celebratory play in which hats have become a springboard for an exploration of black history and identity as seen through the eyes of a young black woman who has come down south to stay with her aunt.

The cast includes Lorraine Baa, Ericka M. Lee, Florence Brown, Monife Stout, Christina Harper, Gloria Gumbs and Drew Bower. The play is directed by Frank Bartolucci; musical direction is by Jeff Neevel. Performances are as follows:
Thursday, Jan. 28, 8 p.m.: Pay as you can night.
Friday, Jan. 29: 8 p.m.: Opening night and door prize. Win a beautiful hat from Dilly D’ally.
Other performances: Jan. 30, Feb. 5, 6, 12 and 13 at 8 p.m.; matinees: Feb. 6 and 14 at 2 p.m.
