Injectables, Rebels Win Tuesday in G & I Softball League

Injectables pitcher Herminio Velasquez dominated the Pavers in a strong relief effort.Tuesday’s action in the Governmental and Industrial Softball League played at the D.C. Canegata Ballpark saw the Juan Luis Hospital Injectables rally late to beat the Public Works Pavers, 7-4, while the Housing Parks and Recreation Rebels outlasted Education, 15-10, in a combined 25-hit slugfest.

Injectables 7, Pavers 4
The Injectables rallied for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull off a come-from-behind, 7-4, victory over the Public Works Pavers in Tuesday’s opener. The Pavers had touched Injectables starting pitcher Julio Perez for four runs on five hits over the first three innings, but Herminio Velasquez came on in relief in the top of the fourth to pitch four innings of no-hit softball.
The Injectables comeback started in the bottom of the third when they scored their first run on an RBI double by Kenny Milligan to trail 4-1 at the end of three completed innings. They busted the game wide open in the bottom of the sixth, exploding for six runs on RBI singles by Rael Sackey, Raymond Cintron and Kanisha Woodrup. Add three unearned to the sixth inning outburst and the Injectables now had a 7-1 lead heading to the seventh inning.
Velasquez then set the Pavers down in order in the top of the seventh to preserve the 7-1 victory.
Velasquez got the win in relief, while Segundino Roman got the loss for the Pavers. Top batters for the winners were Woodrup (2 for 4 with an RBI), and Milligan and Cintron (both 1 for 3 with an RBI). For the Pavers, Libbus Gittens was 2 for 4 with one RBI, and Orlando Benitez was 2 for 4.

Rebels 15, Education 10
The Rebels outlasted Education 15-10 in Tuesday’s nightcap as both teams scorched the opposing pitching for a combined 25 hits. It was the Rebels with 15 runs on 15 hits and three errors, while Education finished with 10 runs on 10 hits and four errors. The winning pitcher was Jesus Perez, and Gareth Knight got the loss.
Top batters for the Rebels were Sylvester Blake (3 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs) and Edgardo Sanes (3 for 4 with one RBI). For Education, Edwin Sankitts was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, James Bates went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and Gary Molloy was 4 for 4.
