Two Teen Parents Charged in Infant's Death

Two teenagers, Kaseem Bruno, 19, and 18-year-old Lilia Roumo, were arrested Saturday and charged with first degree murder in the death of their 2-month-old child, Kaliah K. Bruno.

The story began on April 18 after officers from the Major Crime Unit were called to Bovoni Housing Community to investigate the baby’s death. Not until the medical examiner released his findings, which were that the infant died of neglect and abuse, could police make an arrest, the Source was told Sunday night.

Why it took three weeks for the medical examiner to make a determination about the cause of death of the infant was not explained.

The Source has learned that Roumo may have been attempting to get a restraining order against Bruno when he took her and the baby from her parent’s home some time around April 18.

The Source being aware of the baby’s death, attempted to obtain information on Friday and was told the file was “on the judge’s desk.”

Bail for Bruno has been set at $2 million. He is being held at the Bureau of Corrections at the Alexander Farrelly Complex pending an advice of rights hearing. Roumo, unable to post a $250,000 bail, is being held at the Bureau of Corrections Annex, also pending her advice of rights hearing.
