Name of Woman Killed in Police Car Accident Released

The name of the victim in a fatal April 27 car accident was released Wednesday by St. Thomas/St. John Chief of Police Rodney F. Querrard.

Venice Carman, a 39-year-old originally from Jamaica who lived in Florida, was crossing Veterans’ Drive near Gasverks Gade when she was struck by a police car traveling east. According to Querrard she had been on St. Thomas about a month before the accident.

The case is still being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Bureau.

Assistant Police Commissioner Raymond L. Hyndman said the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the traffic investigation. The officer has also been scheduled to meet with the departments’ psychologist.

“The case will be investigated the same as any other case, there will be no preferential treatment of police involved in any investigation,” Hyndman said.
