Police Arrest 18-Year-Old, Confiscate Weapons

A report of two men firing shots at each other resulted in the arrest of one man and the confiscation of a handgun Friday, May 7, St. Thomas police reported.

At approximately 12:40 p.m., police were dispatched to the area of Paul M. Pearson Gardens on a report of being fired. Upon arrival they learned that two people were seen firing shots at each other. An off-duty officer, who was passing through the area at the time, saw one of the men run to the area of Building 20 in Paul M. Pearson Gardens.

The suspect, identified as being 18-year-old Le Shawn Saddler of Paul M. Pearson Gardens, was found and arrested. A firearm, Kel-Tec 9 mm Luger, was recovered. A second firearm, a 9 mm Glock, was also recovered that afternoon. This investigation is on-going.

St. Thomas/St. John District Police Chief Rodney F. Querrard Sr. called the incident a “senseless act of violence, due to the disregard for life by discharging firearms, high-day, in the proximity of many people who were either walking or driving through the area. He asked anyone who saw the incident to call the Criminal Investigations Bureau at 340-715-5522, 340-715-5551, 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-tips.
