Merchants of Company Street Celebrate 275th Anniversary of Christiansted

The Merchants of Company Street are throwing a big birthday bash for the town of Christiansted, “Celebrating 275 years of Commerce in Christiansted.” From 6-9 p.m. on Friday, May 28, Company Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic between Church Street and Queen Cross and will be transformed into a colorful display of old-time Crucian Culture.

The best in local foods, music and fun will come alive on Historic Company Street. Highlights will include Bully & The Kafooners, fresh cane and coconuts, chicken leg and johnny cake, salt fish and fungi, kallaloo and maube, and other delicious Crucian favorites. Candlelit tables and chairs will line the street for the public’s eating comfort. There will be a donkey cart and donkey, domino games and more. Participating stores will be open for shopping and browsing, and Company Street galleries will be displaying Christiansted themed works. An exhibit of Fritz Henle photographs of Christiansted circa 1950 will be on display at the Maria Henle Studio.
