Special Nutrition Office Releases Schedule of USDA Food Distributions for Residents

The Virgin Islands Department of Education’s Office of Special Nutrition Programs has released the schedule of community distributions of USDA commodities for territorial residents on:

Saturday, June 12 – Julius E. Sprauve School Cafeteria from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Saturday, June 19 – Charles H. Emanuel Elementary School Cafeteria from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Saturday, June 26 – Lockhart Elementary School Cafeteria from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The commodity distributions are for all needy persons, including the elderly, who meet the following criteria:
1. A person or head of household must be a recipient of either:
(a) The Food Stamps Programs
(b) Medical Assistance Program
(c) Tenant of Subsidized Public Housing.
Persons who are not recipients of the above programs must have a family income that does not exceed the 185 percent of the Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines for July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010.
Residents are reminded that distribution packages will be given only one per household. To obtain commodity items proper identification must be presented (i.e. Food Stamp Card, Medical Assistance Card, or proof of income for persons completing the self certification form). Anyone not having proper documentation will not receive commodities. All eligible recipients must bring along sturdy boxes or bags to contain their commodities for transport.
