A Part of the Solution

Dear Source:

On behalf of the Department of Health’s Executive Staff, I want to publicly thank all of our employees for their indulgence as we worked to rehabilitate the Charles Harwood Memorial Complex following problems with our air conditioning unit.
We especially want to thank those employees, who through their selfless commitment to our clients recommended an abbreviated work schedule as opposed to going home when the problem first arose. When the Charles Harwood Complex was eventually closed over a 2 ½-day period so that the Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) could conduct air-quality monitoring, many of our employees still showed up for work to ensure that essential client services, such as refilling prescriptions, were met.
These noble acts are a reminder that there are committed employees within our midst who work because they love what they do and that the only reward necessary is a smile from our most vulnerable clients – the children and the elderly of the Virgin Islands. These acts of kindness deserve to be highlighted and we are happy that our employees were mindful of the fact that without the services offered by the Health Department, many residents would be without basic health care. We applaud their gallant efforts.
We also thank the other V.I. Government agencies including the Office of the Governor, Public Works, St. Croix Administrator, and V.I. Department of Labor’s OSHA, for their assistance.
We pledge to continue to work with our employees so that they are always part of the solution and we thank them once again for their diligent efforts.
Sincerely,
Julia Sheen-Aaron, MPH/Commissioner of Health
