Education Department Makes Plea for Registered Nurses to Fill School Positions

The Virgin Islands Department of Education is seeking registered nurses (RNs) to fill six vacancies as school nurses, according to a press release from Acting Human Resources Director Nicole Jacobs. “We have been actively recruiting to fill these positions and in fact made several offers. However they were declined,” she said. “Right now we are in need of five nurses in the St. Croix District and one in the St. Thomas-St. John District.”

Jacobs said that as a result of stipulations in the union contracts, registered nurses are required to fill these positions. “In the very rare case of having more than one nurse at a school, we can have licensed practical nurses (LPNs), but there must be an RN who oversees them on a daily basis.
“Interested persons can visit our Offices at Vitraco Mall in Orange Grove, Christiansted, or at 1834 Kongens Gade on St. Thomas to obtain an application. Applications are also available on our Web site: www.teachusvi.net.”
