V.I. Answer Desk: Is Sex Offender Registry Online Yet?

Source reader Merv Baer asks: "A number of months ago it was announced that a list of sex offenders would be published by the local government. This list would reveal the names of registered sex offenders and be available to the public. People having knowledge of sex offenders could check to see if the offender is registered and, if they are not, could assist authorities in correcting the deficiency. It is a crime for an offender not to register. …Where and when will this list be published?"
The Source contacted the V.I. Department of Justice to find out the status of the registry.
"The law has been implemented, and the registry for the U.S. Virgin Islands is viewable online at the Justice website," Justice Department spokesperson Sara Lezama said Monday.
There is a list of links to various offices and divisions to the left of the home page, and the last item on the list is a link to the registry.
