DLCA Apologizes to Welco for Wrongly Listing It as a Price-Freeze Violater

The Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs acknowledged Thursday that Welco Gas Station was incorrectly named as one of the service stations found in violation of two DLCA issued orders.

The department formally apologized to Welco Gas Station for this error.

In an official release Wednesday by DLCA, various service stations on St. Croix were
reported to have increased retail gas prices during the period of the prize freeze
and restricted sale order issued Aug. 29 in te face of Hurricane Earl’s approach.

Those stations also violated an order requiring all wholesalers and retailers to submit a request, proper documents, and to receive authorization from the department before increasing prices, the department said.
