Alert: WAPA Plans Power and Water Outages Wednesday

The V.I. Water and Power Authority will be interrupting electrical service at midnight Tuesday until 7 a.m. Wednesday and water service from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday for some St. Croix customers, the utility announced in a statement Tuesday.
The power outage is so WAPA can move feeders to begin work on a new substation. The affected areas will be around United Shopping Plaza, Peter’s Rest, Castle Coakley, Cost U Less, Long Reef Condominiums, Orange Grove, Constitution Hill, John .F. Kennedy Housing Community, Bay Gardens Condominiums, Golden Rock, Pueblo Golden Rock Little Princess Hill, and Beeston Hill.
All are on WAPA electrical feeders 4 and 9.
Technicians will be relocating sections of the feeders within the Richmond Substation in preparation for the construction of the Richmond Substation upgrade facility. The upgraded, higher voltage substation will help WAPA lessen line loss and increasing system reliability.
This work was previously announced for last Sunday but was rescheduled due to inclement weather, according to WAPA.
The Castle Burke area will have water service interrupted in order for a WAPA contractor to install a pressure-reducing valve and meter on the existing 6-inch iron water line in Castle Burke.
Various pressure-reducing valve stations will be installed throughout the water distribution system as part of the first phase of a pressure-management project funded with $852,000 in federal stimulus funds.
Questions and concerns can be directed to WAPA’s water division at 773-7795 and 773-3775.
