St. Croix Man Dies in Traffic Accident

A vehicle accident claimed the life of a 37-year-old St. Croix man at approximately 5 a.m. Tuesday.
The accident occurred in the westbound lane of the Melvin Evans Highway in the vicinity of Estate Profit.
Traffic investigation officers of the V.I Police Department identified the victim as Kevin Burke of Estate Mary’s Fancy.
According to the preliminary traffic report, police said Burke was driving a Toyota Tacoma on the Melvin Evans Highway heading west when he ran into the rear end of a backhoe that was traveling in the same direction.
Upon impact the backhoe driver was ejected from his seat, and Burke was pinned in his vehicle and had to be extricated by St. Croix Rescue and Emergency Medical Technicians.
Burke was later pronounced dead by hospital medical personnel.
The driver of the backhoe was admitted for treatment to Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
