St. Thomas native Jamal Todman, 27, was arrested Wednesday morning and charged in connection with a 2008 double homicide at Tutu Park Mall.
The charges are in connection with the Dec. 11 shooting deaths of Levi Benjamin, 28, and Antonio Escobar, 22.
According to reports at the time, the two men were shot by one or more persons who followed them out in the late afternoon as they were leaving the mall’s rear entrance. Both victims were hit several times and were transported to Schneider Regional Medical Center, where they died within hours of each other.
Todman was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, possession of an unlicensed firearm during the commission of a crime of violence, and reckless endangerment.
Unable to post the $250,000 bail set by Superior Court Judge Michael Dunston, Todman was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing on Thursday.
The police said the investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are anticipated.
Commissioner Novelle E. Francis Jr., Assistant Police Commissioner Raymond L. Hyndman and District Police Chief Rodney F. Querrard Sr. commended everyone involved in the investigation. They also thanked the citizens who came forward with pertinent information.
