Coast Guard Officials Say Missing Diver Is VIPD Officer

Rescue crews from the U.S. Coast Guard, V.I. Police and local boaters searched unsuccessfully Wednesday for a diver missing in the vicinity of Buck Island Reef.
The Coast Guard headquarters in San Juan said the missing diver is a V.I. Police officer who went scuba diving Wednesday morning with two other people aboard a recreational vessel. The operator of the vessel reportedly was able to only locate and recover one of the two divers who had gone into the water.
Coast Guard Search and Rescue coordinators at Sector San Juan received a call from a 911 emergency operator at 8:14 a.m. Wednesday, who reported the incident.
Rescue crews aboard Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopters from Air Station Borinquen, Aguadilla and the Coast Guard Cutter searched for the missing diver alongside personnel from both V.I.P.D. and DPNR.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the missing man is requested to contact the Coast Guard Sector San Juan Command Center at 787-289-2041.
