Criminal Investigation and Major Crime detectives are investigating a murder that occurred at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in Estate Mars Hill, Frederiksted.
Police were dispatched to a call of shots fired and found a man on the ground on the north side of the Queen Mary highway in the vicinity of the hardware store. Emergency Medical Technicians on the scene could not detect any signs of life on the victim.
It was the 24th homicide on St. Croix since the first of the year, the 52nd in the territory in that time.
The cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner. Police have not released the name of the victim pending notification of next of kin.
