Mary Joe Williams Named VI SBDC State Star for 2010 Mary Joe Williams has been selected as the 2010 State Star of the Virgin Islands Small Business Development Center (VI SBDC), according to an announcement by SBDC State Director Leonor D. Dottin. Williams is a training coordinator and business counselor at the SBDC’s St. Thomas- St. John Service Center. She was chosen by the VI SBDC for being an outstanding performer, making a major contribution to its program and showing a strong commitment to the small business community. Breast Cancer Awareness Week Activities Set Oct. 11-15 on St. Croix Campus The UVI Health Services Office on the St. Croix campus will sponsor a series of events and activities to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Week Oct. 11-15 on the St. Croix campus. UVI’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program Application Deadline is Oct. 15 Friday, Oct. 15, is the deadline for students who wish to apply for admission to UVI’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program for the spring semester of 2011. Application forms may be found at the School of Nursing section of the UVI Web site – www.uvi.edu
Deadline Set for Submissions, Ad Purchases in STT/STJ Ag Fair Booklet Friday, Oct. 15, is the deadline for the submission of articles and advertisements to be included in the commemorative booklet of the 2010 St. Thomas-St. John Agriculture and Food Fair. The fair is schedule for Nov. 20-21, on the grounds of the Reichhold Center for the Arts on UVI’s St. Thomas campus. The theme is "Farm Today, for a Healthier Tomorrow."
The early submission deadline for articles and advertisements will allow the book to be published for sale early in November, weeks prior to the fair dates. This will allow time for advertising them in all local media related and to improve the chances of ads being viewed by the community. Applications are also available for anyone wishing to operate vendor booths at the fair. They can be obtained at the UVI Cooperative Extension Office and from the V.I. Department of Agriculture.

UVI Students Invited to Enter VIWP Essay Contest UVI students are invited to enter a Virgin Islands Writing Project (VIWP) essay contest designed to mark the observance of a National Day on Writing on Oct. 20. Essays, which must be a minimum of 500 words, will be judged on focus, support, organization and format, language use, style and conventions, and originality. The essay topic is: Writing and writing competence are essential to the way we live.
UVI, as well as V.I. junior high and high school students are eligible. Essays must be submitted as .pdf or .doc files via e-mail to: vcombie@uvi.edu. Essays must be received by 10 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25. Details are available at this link: VIWP Essay Contest Rules.
