DPNR Alert: Avoid Water Runoff In Anna's Hope

A gravity-fed sewer line is overflowing into a pond behind of the Department of Public Works in Anna’s Hope, according to the Department of Planning and Natural Resources. DPNR is advising the public to avoid the area around the overflowing pond behind Public Works, and DPNR’s Division of Environmental Protection is monitoring the flow.
The Waste Management Authority has said the LBJ gravity-fed sewer line located in the field behind the Youth Rehabilitation Center has either collapsed or is plugged, according to a DPNR statement.
As a result, sewage is flowing into the gut that eventually enters the pond. The increased flow has caused the pond to over flow, cross the road, and travel the length of the gut in the vicinity of Junie’s Bar and Restaurant and the Peters Rest Seventh Days Church.
Standing or running water in this area may contain harmful sewage-borne pollutants.
For more information on water quality call the Division of Environmental Protection at 773-1082.
For more information on sewage overflows call Public Works at 773-1290.
