Agenda
The Committee on Education, Youth and Culture has scheduled a hearing to receive testimony on the following topics:
Current issues affecting student enrollment
Student success rate for graduation
Accreditation status (deadlines)
Teacher recruitment and ratio to students; how many teachers are certified
Funds allocation, monies received, any being returned
Issue surrounding school lunch program
Building maintenance at: CAHS Gym, IEKHS Gym and Auditorium as well as areas for extracurricular activities
Fields for sports used in both schools
Imprest funds – how many are there? Are principals receiving adequate amounts to handle day-to-day operations? How are they being proportioned?
With the high incidence in crime, what measures are being implemented to ensure the safety of our student population? What special programs are being instituted to identify and intervene with At-Risk students who are enrolled in the schools?
Vocational Education – how many programs are currently being offered to students?
What is the current number of students enrolled in these courses?
What are the strengths and weaknesses associated with these programs? What plans are in place to expand the programs and/or enhance existing ones?
Discuss the relationship between the Department of Education, the Board of Education, and the Board of Vocational Education – is it functional? What are the areas that need to be immediately addressed?
