Police on Thursday arrested Alejandro D. Lima, 25, and charged him with voluntary manslaughter in the death of Gilberto Parilla, who died a few days after allegedly being punched in the face by Lima.
Detectives said they interviewed several people at the Gas Works Convenience Store regarding an assault that took place there on Feb. 17. Witnesses told police that Parilla was causing a disturbance in the store and was asked to leave several times, according to a Police new release.
Parilla continued to curse and he spit in Lima’s face, police said. Lima then allegedly punched Parilla, causing him to fall and hit his head. The victim was taken to Roy L. Schneider Hospital for treatment.
Parilla died from his injuries Feb. 21.
Detectives charged Lima with voluntary manslaughter. His bail was set at $50,000 pending further court action.
