Police Investigate Nonfatal Shooting

A man was injured by gunshot about 10:20 p.m. Thursday at Smith Bay, according to the V.I. Police Department.

The police report said the victim was shot more than once in his legs and torso. The victim, whose name was not released in accord with a department policy to not name nonfatal victims, was leaving a home in the area and heard someone call his name. He looked around and then heard gunshots. The victim ran for cover.

He told police he did not recognize the voice that called him and he did not see the shooter.

Officers recovered a firearm in the area during their investigation along with several spent shell casings. A vehicle parked on the street was also damaged by gunshots, police said.

The case remains under investigation by detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
