Police Arrest 2 in Unrelated Theft Cases

George Covington Jr.Kahlid BlydenTwo men were arrested Wednesday and charged in a pair of unrelated theft cases on St. Thomas, according to the V.I. Police Department.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau arrested George Covington Jr. and charged him with grand larceny in connection with an incident that occurred Sept. 26 at the Red Hook Dive Center.

Police said the 51-year-old Covington was identified as the man who entered the Dive Center and removed a cell phone without permission.

He was arrested at about 5 p.m. Wednesday. Bail was set at $45,000, which he was unable to post. Covington was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.

Also on Wednesday, detectives arrested Kahlid Blyden and charged him with third-degree burglary. Police said Blyden, age 19, was identified as the person who stole a television from a residence in Estate Solberg on Nov. 25.

Police arrested Blyden at about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday. He was placed on a $25,000 bail and remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.
