Heavy Construction Begins on St. Croix’s Estate Spanish Town Solar Project

Beginning Thursday and continuing for three weeks, Toshiba International Corp., the contractor for the Estate Spanish Town Solar Project, will begin pile driving for the solar panel racking system posts, according to the V.I. Water and Power Authority.

Work will continue between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Residents in the areas of Estates Profit and Clifton Hill and anyone traveling in the immediate area can expect to hear noise emitted by the pile driving machines used to drive the posts into the ground, according to WAPA.

WAPA and Toshiba broke ground on this 4-megawatt solar power project in Estate Spanish Town in August 2013. (See Related Links below) Toshiba will build a turnkey solar array power plant in Estate Spanish Town and connect it directly to the new WAPA Midland Substation currently under construction, WAPA said.

WAPA expects the Estate Spanish Town project to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2014.
