Police responding to a Cassi Hill area gunfight Friday morning shot and killed a male suspect, St. Thomas police reported. The name of the deceased has not yet been released.
Concerned neighbors called 911 Emergency dispatch several times beginning at 10:25 a.m. Friday to report a large disturbance and shots fired in the area. According to a statement from the V.I. Police Department, officers tried to detain individuals who fit the description of the persons involved in the disturbance. According to the department, shots were fired and one suspect was shot by police.
The police statement does not indicate whether more than one person was firing a weapon. The victim was taken to the Schneider Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
This case will be investigated by the Major Crime Unit, the Internal Affairs Unit and the Office of the Attorney General, according to a statement from the department.
