Power Interruption Will Allow Transfer to New Substation

The V.I. Water and Power Authority will interrupt service for about 15 minutes to St. Croix feeder 8 at 8 p.m. Wednesday. When the power comes back on, it will be flowing through the new Midland Substation.

The interruption will allow the authority to transfer feeder 8, which originated out of the Estate Richmond Substation, to the new Midland Substation at Remainder 3 Estate Spanish Town. Once transferred, the feeder will be identified as feeder 8B.

The new feeder 8B will distribute power to customers in the following areas:

The Midland Substation will be energized Tuesday and will serve as the distribution point for the western part of the island, and for some areas in the east, the WAPA news release said.

“This 69kv transmission line from Estate Richmond to the Midland substation is the first true transmission circuit in Virgin Islands history,” said WAPA Executive Director Hugo Hodge Jr.

“The substation will assist with decreasing line loss on the distribution system, improving system reliability, enhancing system protection and automation, and developing future load expansion,” said Hodge.
