Man Injured by Gunshot Near Altona Bar

A 39-year-old St. Thomas man was injured by gunshot about 10 p.m. Saturday near a bar in the Altona area, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to the preliminary investigation, police interviewed a man who told them he was with two acquaintances when a man standing outside the bar began shooting at him.

The victim, whose name was not released by the police, said he ran and ducked behind a car. He told officers the suspect seemed to be looking for him. He ran toward One Stop Gas Station and asked someone to call police.

Police located the injured victim lying on the sidewalk near the Davis Funeral Home. He was taken to the Schneider Regional Medical Center and treated for injuries to his left upper thigh, left upper back, upper right side and right arm.

The Investigation Bureau Unit detectives are following up the case.
