The race was supposed to pit 2014 champ Juan Robles of St. Croix against Shane De Gannes, the top runner on St. Thomas and St. John, for the male title; St. Croix’s Brigiette Campbell-Klein’ major competition was supposed to be Ruth Ann David of St. Thomas. It was not to be though because Robles and Campbell-Klein missed the race.
Degannes took it out early and stayed in the lead for the entire race to take both the overall male title and the masters, and win a trip to Guadeloupe to run in the NACAC 10K Road Race Series. His time was 39:10. Jay Gleason finished second in in 45:50; Ivan Espinosa was third in 47:37; Antonio Maysonnette was fourth in 47:41; Kevin Purcell was fifth in 56:04; Ned Jacobs was sixth in 68:24; Meduro Paul was seventh in 85:12

1] St. Croix hosted one of the NACAC 10K Road Race Series three years ago in an effort to assist in the development of road running in the region and the Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation (VITFF) is considering sending the top four long distance runners in the territory, which includes: Juan Robles, V.I. Half-Marathon champion; Shane De Gannes, males; Brigette Campbell-Klein, V.I. Marathon champion; and Ruth Ann David, females, in support of the event, with an eye on hosting the series again in the future.
2] The scenic yet challenging North Shore Road (recently named Sidney Lee Road after the former St. Croix senator) is now used by V.I.Pace Runners for at least five of its events including: The Labor Day 5K, The V.I. 10K Road Race Championship, The St. Croix International Marathon, The V.I. Half-Marathon and The Cane Bay 5-Mile.
3] The next event on the V.I.Pace Runners calendar is The Virgin Islands Olympic Committee BeachWeeks Beach Relay on Oct. 4. This event is open to all and will include two-person relay teams with runners/walkers completing two miles each on St. Croix’s Ha Penny Beach. Following the race, participants will remove trash/debris from the beach in support of the annual effort to protect the beautiful beaches of the territory. There is no entry fee for this event. All Virgin Islands Olympic Committee members are expected to field a team and send out volunteers, officials, parents and others to support this effort.
