A man was shot and killed Sunday morning in the vicinity of a nightclub on Norre Gade, the V.I. Police Department reported.
The victim was identified as 22-year-old Shacoi E. Benjamin. It was the 31st homicide in the territory since the beginning of the year, the 17th on St. Thomas.
According to police, at 4:08 a.m. 911 operators dispatched officers to a shooting on Norre Gade. While traveling to that location officers were notified that the victim was transported by private vehicle to the emergency room at the Schneider Regional Medical Center.
The man, later identified as Benjamin, had been fatally shot at least one time. He was pronounced dead by medical staff.
