Body Found in Burned SUV Still a Mystery

Police are hoping the report from the medical examiner will help them identify the person whose body was found Saturday afternoon in a burned out car at Ha’Penny Beach.

V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Melody Rames said Friday that investigators are treating the case as a homicide, although the medical examiner has not determined the cause of death or the identity of the dead person.

Rames said police believe the incident was related to a house fire that occurred earlier the same day. However, all residents of the house have been accounted for, she said, so none of them are the victim.

Detectives at the scene where the victim was found said the body was badly burned and was inside an SUV.

Police urge anyone with information to call detectives at 1-340-712-6030 or 1-340-712-6077, or call either the 911 emergency dispatch center or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
