Disney Cruise Line Brings Minnie, Mickey and Pluto to St. Thomas

St. Thomas children received an early dose of holiday cheer last week when the Tourism Department, in collaboration with the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association and Disney Cruise Line, hosted the Disney Holiday Gift Project at the Frenchman’s Reef and Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort.

The Disney Holiday Gift Project, now in its 17th year, is an annual holiday event hosted by Tourism for less fortunate children in the Virgin Islands. More than 200 children from the Division of Special Education, Department of Human Services Children and Family Division and the V.I. Resource Center were the recipients at this year’s event.

"Every year we look forward to this event which offers a huge dose of holiday merriment for the many young attendees," said Tourism Commissioner Beverly Nicholson-Doty in a press release issued Tuesday.

During the festivities, each child received gifts and enjoyed refreshments. A total of 25 Disney volunteers and the popular characters Mickey, Minnie and Pluto provided the entertainment.

As part of the program, FCCA Cruise Lines provides gifts to more than 6,000 under-privileged children in 33 different destinations throughout the region, including the Virgin Islands.
