Public Finance Authority board members on Tuesday authorized an additional $100,000 to cover the final costs of a $1.5 million Department of Finance Renovation project.
The project funded by 2003 Gross Receipt bond proceeds consists of renovating the historic Department of Finance Building on St. Thomas.
The additional funds are needed to cover the scope of work that was completed, Department of Public Works Commissioner Darryl Smalls told PFA board members at Tuesday’s meeting on St. Thomas.
“Additional work was performed at additional costs,” said Smalls. “An additional $107,039.84 is needed to cover the scope of work.”
The resolution was unanimously approved by the board.
PFA board members also unanimously approved a measure to rent space at the Frederiksted Mall to Core Development LLC for an ATM machine. Both FirstBank and ScotiaBank have ATM machines on different streets in Frederiksted, but there are no ATMs at the mall, explained PFA Executive Director Debra Gottlieb.
“This is revenue for the Frederiksted Mall,” said Gottlieb.
Board members also discussed the ongoing track project at Ivanna Eudora Kean High School.
While Phase I of the Kean track project should be wrapped up next week, additional research is needed before the project moves into Phase II, Smalls told board members.
The new track has been installed and the interior of the track has been constructed as well, Smalls said. “We’re doing the final walkthrough scheduled for next week.”
The next phase will require consulting with an architect before soliciting bids for installation of lights, bleachers, concessions, restrooms and fencing, Smalls explained.
Gov. John deJongh Jr., PFA board chairman, asked Smalls about the need to meet with an architect before moving ahead.
“Because of where the lighting and the fencing will be, we want to make sure there is no conflict,” Smalls said.
The board took no action on the measure and members agreed that Public Works should conduct additional research and engage an architect on the project.
