Walsh Metal Works Gallery Exhibits Paintings by John Obafemi Jones

The next solo exhibition of new paintings by prolific, St. Croix artist John Obafemi Jones is “Fire Down There: Uncompromising Expressions of Sounds and Color,” which will begin from 5-8 p.m. on March 5 with a reception at Walsh Metal Works Gallery.
According to Jones, his artistic excursions are firmly rooted in a desire to make his painting as ethereal as music and dance. The exhibition will be an especially unique exploration of the dynamic relationships between the various genres of the three art forms. Through experimentation with materials and techniques, he achieves what he calls “visual music.” It is within this context that the artist integrates Afro-Atlantic culture, and his love for the music and the history of jazz into an innovative visual language.
It will be a treasured opportunity for exhibit goers to meet and interpret for themselves the many meanings of “The Fire Down There.”
The exhibit will run through March 31, at Walsh Metal Works, 6214 Estate Peter’s Rest, St. Croix. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Also, individuals can make an appointment by calling 332-2504 or e-mailing WalshMetalWorks@gmail.com.
