The University of the Virgin Islands Music Department, in conjunction with the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, will hold a panel discussion on world conflict and peace at 9:30 a.m. on Friday.
The event, titled "Stories and Conversations" will be held in the first-floor conference room of the Administration and Conference Center on St. Thomas.
The panelists will share stories and invite conversation about conflict and war. They will also provide insight into current scholarship in conflict resolution and the potential for peace.
The panelists at Friday’s event will include:
– Dr. Lejla Mušić, an assistant professor at the University of Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Her scholarship lies in the fields of social ecology, sociology of gender and contemporary gender studies. She has participated in international conferences, including The Symposium on Sustainable Development in Zagreb in 2011, Eco-feminism as a New Political Responsibility in Belgrade in 2011, and Integrative Bioethics in Mali Losinj in 2011 and 2012.
– Dr. Janet Gerson, education director at the International Institute on Peace Education. She is the 2014 Peace and Justice Studies Association Award winner for her dissertation, "Public Deliberation on Global Justice: The World Tribunal on Iraq." She has worked internationally as a consultant, program designer, mediator, presenter and educator.
– Danny Tom, a survivor of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The panel discussion is an Ann Elizabeth Richardson Distinguished Professor of Music activity. The public is invited to attend.
