WAPA Announces Tentative Rotation Schedule

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority announced tentative electrical service interruptions to small sections of St. Thomas feeders for Wednesday evening while the agency works to complete the repair of two generators following weekend incidents.

According to WAPA’s news release, the outages will only be employed if the demand for power surpasses the generating capacity of the power plant.

Plant personnel continued work Wednesday to make repairs to generating Units 15 and 23, which experienced failures over the weekend. By late Wednesday afternoon, repairs were being wrapped up and testing of the units was expected to begin by Wednesday night.

Rotating service interruptions will be performed on two hours intervals, and will be conducted in a manner to ensure service is retained by as many customers as possible, according to WAPA’s release. Public notice will be given of feeders selected for rotation by VI Alert and the WAPA website.

Wednesday evening’s tentative rotation schedule is as follows:

– 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. – sections of feeder 7A

– 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. – sections of feeder 6A

– 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. – sections feeder 7C, 8B, 9C

– 12 a.m. to 2 a.m. – sections of feeder 7D.
