VIPA to Receive $2.3 Million for Aircraft Rescue, Firefighting Building

The V.I. Port Authority will receive $2.3 million in federal funding to construct an aircraft rescue and firefighting building at the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport on St. Croix, according to Delegate Stacey E. Plaskett.

Plaskett announced Wednesday the U.S. Department of Transportation grant would “augment the fire and rescue operations” of the authority and allow it to “better respond to any potential emergencies on or around the airfield.”

VIPA Director of Engineering Bill Gregory said, “This is only a portion of what we asked for but we are elated to be moving forward with constructing the new facility.”
