15 Days of Darkness? Don’t Believe It

The story circulating – again – that NASA has confirmed that the Earth will experience 15 days of total darkness between November 15 and November 29, is fake.

A caller to the Source Tuesday morning, who asked to remain anonymous, said she heard the hoax being read on a local newscast minutes before reaching out to the Source to confirm the story is a hoax.

The well-known Internet rumor debunking site, Snopes.com confirms the story has circulated a few times and is, of course , untrue.

It was started by a fake news site, Newswatch33. Snopes says, “Newswatch33 web site is not a legitimate news outlet. Newswatch33 is a fake news site (which) began darkening the doorstep of social media networks shortly after the nearly identical NewsWatch28 fake news site shut down in mid-2015. Moreover, the "15 days of darkness" yarn was lifted from an older (debunked) viral rumor that has been around the online block several times before. “

Editor’s note: The Source, as a 16-year-old newspaper of general circulation, feels it is the responsibility of legitimate news outlets to expose fake news and irresponsible rumor perpetuating. We expect to be doing more of it closer to home soon.
