American Red Cross Tells Public to Be Prepared for Hurricane Season

American Red Cross responding to a floodThe Hurricane Season begins June 1, and preparation is the best protection against the dangers. The American Red Cross of the Virgin Islands (ARC VI) encourages the community to ask themselves how prepared they are and to take the necessary steps to get ready.
“This year we decided to turn the tables around and ask the people if they really feel prepared,” said Lee Vanessa Feliciano, regional executive director of the American Red Cross Caribbean Region. “Through this introspection, families can make some time to meet and together come up with a family preparedness plan.”
Some of the questions that ARC encourages families to ask are: “In case we are separated during an emergency, what are the two places we should meet?” and “For how many days should I prepare my emergency preparedness kit?” among others.
To help families to better prepare for disasters, volunteers and staff of ARC VI will be present to disseminate information to the public in the following locations on St. Croix and St. Thomas:
St. Croix: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, at Plaza Extra Supermarket – West
St. Croix: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, at Sunny Isles Shopping Center
St. Thomas: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, at Plaza Extra Supermarket
St. Croix: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Saturday, June 4, at Housing Expo 2016 at Sunshine Mall
