VIHFA to Host 2016 Housing Expos

Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp has declared June as National Homeownership Month in the USVI. As the Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority (VIHFA) marks 32 years of providing affordable housing in the territory, it is gearing up to host the 2016 Housing Expos. The Expos will be held on Saturday, June 4, at the Sunshine Mall on St. Croix and on Saturday, June 25, at the UVI Sports and Fitness Arena on St. Thomas. They will both run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This year’s theme is "Preservation Through Revitalization," which exemplifies the VIHFA’s vision of advocating for change through educating the community, promoting neighborhood awareness, and building partnerships with organizations to revitalize communities.
Over 45 exhibitors will showcase their products and services. The Expo encompasses “Do-It-Yourself” workshops, presentations on hurricane preparedness, and finding and financing a home.
For the first time, the Expo will feature the “VI Price is Right Game.” Attendees will take a chance at spinning the wheel to win great prizes. Prizes will include a new washer, landscaping package for seniors, a paint makeover and a bathroom makeover. There will also be door prizes for the first 50 attendees, and children can participate in the Kids Workshop and get building experience with kits provided by Home Depot.
“The Housing Expo has gained tremendous momentum over the last six years and has been one of the greatest avenues to educate the public on achieving homeownership and maintaining your housing investment. The VIHFA is extremely pleased with the continued support from its partners to increase the reach of the Expo. This is truly a great event for the entire family,” said VIHFA Executive Director Adrienne L. Williams.
Expo sponsors include Banco Popular, Bert Smith and Co., AARP, McCormack Baron Asset Management, International Capital Management, DWH Business Services, Jackson Development Company, Pan American Investments, Innovative, Marshall & Sterling, Carlos Furniture, Smartnet, Federal Home Loan Bank of NY and The Michaels Organization.
